So this is a little unexpected, yet expected all at once. Did you know that Street Fighter IV: Champion Edition is heading to the iPhone and iPad?

Well, I didn't know either until today. Capcom announced that Street Fighter IV: Champion Edition, which is an improved version of the original Street Fighter IV iOS port, will be heading to the devices. There will be improved visuals, three new characters, and support for the more recent and wider-screened devices.

In this title, you'll find Poison, Ibuki and Dundley, bringing the roster total to 25. Furthermore, players will be able to battle each other online via Wi-Fi. How will the game be controlled? Why, with a four-button virtual pad on screen, which "allows players to execute moves through multiple key combinations and shortcuts."

The fighter will also support external controllers and gamepads.

So when will Street Fighter IV Champion Edition release? Well, it will apparently launch sometime this summer. If you want updates, you can sign up on the official Street Fighter IV Champion Edition mailing list.
