Steampunk settings in gaming has always been rather niche, but it appears to be growing with games like The Order: 1886, and Trulon: The Shadow Engine. Wait, Trulon?

Aye, that's right, Trulon! Inspired by a novel, this RPG pits you in the heart of steampunk with an innovative combat system at your disposal. Headup Games recently announced the imminent release of Trulon: The Shadow Engine, after newly partnering with Lillbacka Powerco Oy and Kyy Games. The game, which is inspired by the novel of the game's author Johan Lillback and Jak Koke (known for the Shadowrun trilogy, The Dragon Heart Saga), will center on variety and strategy in its battles.

How is the battle system unique, you might ask? Well, Trulon features a card combat system that combines "traditional deck management with random elements," and there are over 50 cards that are easy to dive into.

Not only that, but Trulon will feature a deep story with "gray elements", rather than just black and white. The players will control four different characters who are led by Gladia. In the kingdoms of Tripudia and Maleon, a mysterious disease has spread, which threatens civilization as it mutates victims with magic. The band must try to survive through it all, battling through different monsters, and put a stop to the disease.

As for the features?
  • Unique card combat system with a deep strategy
  • Battle enemies using a collection of over 50 unique cards
  • Over seven hours of single player action and adventure
  • Four unique playable characters with individual strengths and play styles
  • Solve puzzles and interact with over a hundred NPCs
  • Beautiful setting featuring a mix of steampunk and JRPG
  • Spin-off story from the original Trulon novel
  • The package contains the complete soundtrack as well as two bonus tracks
Trulon: The Shadow Engine will release March 1, 2016 digitally for the PC at $19.99 / 19,99 / £14.99.
