Stranger Things is getting the Telltale Treatment, and Minecraft Goes to Netflix

At this point, you can just safely assume that if something is possible Telltale will eventually make a game out of it. They did it with Game of Thrones, Fable, Borderlands, The Walking Dead, and now, apparently, they’re going to do it with Stranger Things.

"We're thrilled to confirm that Telltale is developing a game based on Stranger Things that we'll publish to consoles and computers at a later date. Our partnership with Netflix is something we're incredibly proud of, and while we don't have anything more to share right now, we're excited to reveal details on these projects later in the year."

Obviously, we have no idea what kind of story it’s going to tell, but it could just be five episodes of 11 banging her head against a wall and fans would still buy it. But in the same announcement where this little gem was unveiled to the public, there was a slightly more interesting bit of news tacked on: Telltale’s Minecraft game, “Story Mode”… is actually coming to Netflix.

"...five-episode interactive narrative series, It's an extension of our other interactive stories we have on our service like Stretch Armstrong: The Breakout, Puss in Book: Trapped in an Epic Tale and Buddy Thunderstruck: The Maybe Pile."

As for why they’re doing this, Netflix was happy to explain that it basically doesn’t see Telltale’s work as video games.

“There's a broad spectrum of entertainment available today. Games have become increasingly cinematic, but we view this as interactive narrative storytelling on our service."

And that’s… that’s actually pretty fair. Lord knows I’d like it if Telltale’s other games wound up on Netflix, then I might actually get around to playing/watching/whatevering them. But Minecraft: Story Mode is a good start.

No news on when we can expect a Stranger Things game to come out, but Minecraft: Story Mode is set to re-release on Netflix sometime this year. Which is cool.
