Brawlhalla, the free to play fighting game, expands their roster yet again. And this time, it's none other than the Crystal Gems from Cartoon Network's hit animated show Steven Universe.

Announced earlier today on the Brawlhalla YouTube channel, four major characters from Steven Universe have joined the Brawlhalla team as fighters. In the show, they are the Crystal Gems, a team of sentient gemstones (except Steven, he's human) that fight against corrupted monsters to protect planet Earth.

The Brawlhalla combat system features a "damage increases knockback" similar to Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. Having recently announced plans for release on mobile devices, It's since established itself as one of the more crossover-happy games currently available, featuring guest appearances ranging from Rayman to Adventure time.

The Fighters
  • Garnet, the strong, silent leader of the Crystal Gems. With stone gauntlets, she's a fast and heavy hitter in the game.
  • Amethyst, the goofy prankster. Her weapon of choice is a spiked whip, allowing for effective zoning if you're good enough. She can also transform her body to suit her needs, as seen in the trailer.
  • Pearl, the more gentle and refined gem, she uses both a spear and a bow for fast long-range combat.
  • Stevonnie. A fusion between the titular protagonist Steven and his girlfriend Connie, they work together using Steven's magic shield and Connie's swordsmanship to offer a balanced fighter. They also can summon a big, pink lion.
New Game Mode

This update also brings a new game mode called Bubble Tag. In the show, the Crystal Gems capture monsters in bubbles. In this game mode, you have defeat your opponents to trap them in bubbles. But be careful, teammates can free a bubbled player.

Interestingly, this isn't the only Steven Universe related news in gaming this week. Sony's recent music video, promoting the PlayStation, was recently called out for stealing animations from multiple sources, including the Steven Universe movie.
