There was once a time when Valve kept their seasonal sales under an exciting veil of secrecy. Nobody ever knew for sure when they would start. We knew that each December would bring on the mega sales we all know and love. Unfortunately, we wouldn't know when Gaben Claus would force his way down our digital chimneys. That move, while infuriating, was great at making sure gamers continued to buy video games all the way up to the sale. Without that ambiguous nature about sale dates, impatient gamers would go ahead and buy the games they've been craving at full price (see: suckers).
Lately, though, Valve seems to have thrown that practice out the window. The past few sales have been consistently leaked. Almost every time, Paypal is the one to spill the beans. And, as expected, it's happened. again.
We've technically known about the upcoming sale for weeks now. There was a leaked memo that Valve reported sent to a developer that came to light in early December. Paypal's reveal over Twitter only confirms what we already assumed.
Since Valve changed up the formula for their Steam sales, I haven't been very excited about them. There's just really nothing exciting about them anymore. Maybe Valve feels the same way. I can't think of any other reason why they stopped caring about these kinds of leaks. Regardless, if you're looking to buy some games for Christmas, keep on eye on the upcoming Steam sale. Maybe it'll surprise us.
