Steam hasn't made an official statement about discontinuing the Steam Link hardware, but Sam Lantinga, computer programmer currently employed at Valve, posted in the Steam Community Forums stating that physical stocks are selling out and that Steam will continue to support the software.
"The supply of physical Steam Link hardware devices is sold out in Europe and almost sold out in the US.
Moving forward, Valve intends to continue supporting the existing Steam Link hardware as well as distribution of the software versions of Steam Link, available for many leading smart phones, tablets and televisions. Click here to find out more about the Steam Link App."
The Steam Link originated as a piece of hardware that connected an HDTV to a user's PC and Steam account. This allowed for wireless access to all of their Steam games on their television.
With the recent releases of Steam Link, the digital software that does the same thing, Valve has been shifting focus away from their hardware products. This was most notably seen when they held a close-out priced sale, selling hardware items as low as the single digit dollar values.
If for some reason you want a Steam Link device and still haven't gotten one. This may be your last chance.
