The creators of the largest online game distribution service Steam have taken yet another charge toward improving their community. This time, they've banned over 90,000 Steam accounts for cheating.
According to SteamDB statistics initially reported by PCGamesN, The number of player bans a day have multiplied as much as 60 fold over the last few days.
On a normal day, a little over 1,000 accounts are banned a day. Beginning on Wednesday, this number jumped to as much as 28,000 accounts. By Thursday, this number had risen to 61,000 in a single day. After this, the ban number had fallen back down to their average.
So far, nothing has prompted this new wave of bans. Many suspect that Valve-Anti-Cheat (VAC) has identified a new exploit and was "cleaning up" all of the accounts guilty of using it. Since VAC monitors some of Steam's most popular games, such as CS:GO, DOTA 2, and Team Fortress 2, it's watching an absolutely massive list of players.
This is only the most recent of banning efforts made by the company over the last year. The number of player bans has skyrocketed around October of last year, and they've kept the momentum since. Now's a good time to start playing fair.
