Buying a game as a gift on Steam has always been a great way to spread the love with digital gaming, but that leaves you with picking out a game. If you're wanting to send a cash value to a friend instead, the only way to do so would be by buying a Steam gift card at a local store and sending them the code. What if you're a shy hermit who wishes to never leave home? Now there is a solution for you.

Valve has announced the release of Steam Digital Gift Cards. Now you can send money directly to your friends digitally, which is then put into their Steam Wallet to be spent on whatever they see fit, be it a new game, DLC, or in-game microtransactions.

The process is easy, according to Steam:

Simply log into Steam, select a Steam Friend and a gift amount, and we'll do all the rest.

It may not be THAT simple, as you still will need to direct yourself to the digital gift card page and make sure your payment options are correct, but this certainly is a much simpler and reliable way to send friends video game money.

Steam Digital Gift Cards are live now. For more information, please visit the official Steam gift card page.
