Stardew Valley, the best game of 2016 before any other games had the chance to actually compete for the title, is still beloved by a community of passionate players who appreciate how the game takes the trappings of the old Harvest Moon games and advances them with clever writing, deep gameplay, and a level of customization that the former JRPG never had a chance to really manifest, outside of later series entries. Also, lots of diversity and junk, which is always a big hit in some circles.
Well, the game is about seven months old now, and things are starting to get a wee bit stale. Fortunately, the folks at PC Gamer happened to stumble upon the game's creator, one Eric "Concerned Ape" Barone at PAX West and asked him what to expect in the game's next (and first) patch, version 1.1.
While the latest update won't include multiplayer, which is high on fan's wishlist, it does have a bunch of other features: the biggest being the new farm layouts, which will let you focus your farm on the aspect of the game you find most interesting or fun. Specifically, a Standard Farm is the "farming focused" farm we're used to. The Riverland Farm is spread out across several islands and riverbanks, with a focus on fishing. The Forest Farm has limited farming space due to its dense forests but is perfect for the lumberjack wannabes. The Hill-top Farm has a focus on mining, and finally, the Wilderness Farm is for the combat-oriented player, as monsters will attack every night. However, these farms can only be added in new games: they cannot apply retroactively.
The new patch will also come with new buildings (a shed, a big empty space for customization, and a mill, for making flour or sugar), new cosmetics, special artisan goods, and the ability to woo Shane and Emily.
Cool. Unfortunately, there's still no info on when this patch will be released, but no one should turn their nose up at free content, especially so late after release. Here's hoping it comes soon!
