The multiplayer update for Stardew Valley on the Nintendo Switch is now live.

Developer Eric Barone recently announced the update's launch, which happened on Wednesday, December 12, on both Twitter and the official game website. In it, he gives thanks to Tom Coxon and Sickhead Games, who helped with the game's net code and Nintendo Switch port respectively. He also details some of the changes that came with the 1.3 update, aside from just multiplayer.

The main event is the multiplayer. Up to three other players can join your game as a farmhand. This can be enabled by either starting a new game or by building cabins for the player to live in. Each farmhand can do everything the main player does, including marrying others as well as each other. It's basically everything that the PC version had.

Players can communicate using the built-in chat system, or through the Nintendo Switch Online voice chat. Those not wanting to play via the internet can instead play using near communication. Up to four Nintendo Switch consoles can connect via local play.

In regards to content, the following changes have been made to the game.
  • Night Market: a special event taking place in the Winter where players can purchase rare items and participate in some festivities.
  • New character events: unlisted, but Barone said that some have permanent bonuses.
  • Strange Winter Event: This special encounter will unlock a new collection, not much else was said.
  • Horses can wear hats.
  • "Much more to be discovered!"
This update has been on PC for a little while now. It'll be a while still before the update makes its way to PS4 and Xbox One.
