The Star Wars Battlefront hype train has come to a stop, thanks in no small part--well, thanks entirely to the fact that Fallout 4 is out tomorrow and gamers have memories that only barely outlast the natural lifespan of a fruit fly. Still, people have a few days to get the fallout out of their systems (have you tried Rad-away?) before the full version of Star Wars Battlefront comes out, which EA has optimistically assumed will sell about 14 million copies in a few short weeks.
Speaking of, Rise of the Tomb Raider is out tomorrow too. Anyone excited for that…? Anyone…?
Regardless of the unfortunate timing, as the day comes closer we’re getting more and more information regarding the game, and today, we’ve learned that Star Wars: Battlefront is actually going to be a comparatively small download. After experiencing the beta, there were fears that the game would be so memory-intensive you might need a whole new memory card just to fit the damn thing in there, but fortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the case: reports are pegging the game at 27GB for the PC, 23GB for the PS4, and 19GB on the Xbox One.
The difference in size could be anything from better graphics to simply better optimization.
Now. While it’s nice to see this game will be a manageable size, this information also comes as a bit worrisome--after all, there are two possibilities; either EA has found a super-efficient way of storing data, or the game is much smaller than we think and EA intends to expand it with DLC and Microtransactions. While the former would certainly be lovely, the latter is most certainly more realistic (and fits EA's style more, unfortunately). After all, the Beta only had two maps and it was 11GB on the PC--which means at that rate it will have all of five maps… something of a paltry offering.
But then, maybe we’ll be surprised…?
