If you keep up to date with the crowdfunding industry, then you're most likely more than aware of the existence of Star Citizen. It's one of the most highly anticipated, highly supported, and without a doubt the most ambitious game in development right now.
Although the release of Star Citizen is highly anticipated, fans know to get excited on an update basis, since a game this massive and ambitious is due for a fair amount of development time and delay. Star Citizen's 3.0 update was due for an August release, but it has unfortunately been pushed back until September. Hardcore Star Citizen supporters should be used to this kind of announcement at this point.
Community manager Will Leverett issued a statement along with the bad news on the forums yesterday morning.
The scope of 3.0 is not insignificant, Leverett says. It introduces a level of tech and infrastructure thats an order of magnitude larger and more complex than all of our previous versions combined. There are thousands of new assets, millions of entities to manage, new UI, new features, multiple new backend services, etc. all being introduced in 3.0.
Integrating all of this has revealed to be MUCH more of a bug fixing project than anticipated, which obviously reshapes those estimates and changes those dates, he continues. Hammering in a level of polish that weve not aimed for before requires an additional adjustment of dates.
