The popular space-faring game, Star Citizen, has released a long-awaited update known as Alpha Patch 3.0.0.
The update is the largest content update in several years. It primarily consists of new locations, including 3 new moons. Other notable features are atmospheric flight, enhanced cockpit interaction for pilots, 20 new missions, and AI for non-player characters such as shopkeepers.
Star Citizen has been in development since its beginning on Kickstarter in 2012. Since then it has become the most funded project of all time, having raised over $174 million.
There have been a number of issues since its launch. Two high-value supporters have been requesting a refund due to lack of progress with Star Citizen's single-player game, Squadron 42. Crytek, the owners of the CryEngine, recently have been seeking legal actions in regards to copyright infringement. Star Citizen used to utilize the CryEngine until recently. Crytek implied that the Star Citizen executives also behaved unethically during negotiations.
Regardless of the business side, Alpha Patch 3.0.0 is still an important milestone for the game. Even with that, the game is still missing much of the promised final content. At this rate, the game might be done by 2030. You can read the full changelog for update 3.0.0 on the Star Citizen News Post.
