What can we expect thus far?
Well:
- Stormblood will be set in Ala Mhigo, with a focus on regaining control of Ala Mhigo (which was dominated by the Garlean Empire 20 years ago).
- The main antagonist will be Zenos Yae Galvus, a XIIth Legion Legatus and the de facto ruler of Ala Mhigo.
- The woman teased in the trailer will potentially be revealed in a 3.X patch (people are speculating 3.5).
- Whereas Heavensward focused on Dragoon, Stormblood will focus on Monk.
- The area shown in the teaser trailer is Rhalgr's Reach, which is the HQ of the Ala Mhigo's main resistance.
- Multiple new jobs will be discussed at a future date (I'm assuming at the European fanfest). My hope is Samurai, Dancer, and Red Mage. To tease fans, Naoki Yoshida - director of Final Fantasy XIV - wore Marvel's Scarlet Witch T-Shirt, so it can be assumed that we will be getting Red Mage at the very least.
- The level cap will be raised from 60 to 70.
- More actions for each job will go with the new cap. Not only that, but the battle system will be revamped to go with the new actions.
- The Additional Skill System will be overhauled, with skills shared by roles instead of jobs (O SHI-). Players will be able to select from the role ability options.
- There will be a reassessment of unused/ineffective actions.
- New areas will be introduced, which is comparable in size to Heavensward areas.
- Stormblood will be a standalone game's worth of content.
- Like Heavensward, new Primals will be introduced in Stormblood. Expect familiar and original names.
- New Dungeons will be introduced, with new battle and dungeon concepts (hopefully no longer linear!).
- High-End Raids will be added. The story will differ depending on difficulty. Normal mode and Savage will not be added in at the same time.
- New Alliance Raids will be added, but we won't know anything about them until Tokyo Fan Fest. That being said, it will be "very, very Final Fantasy."
- Expanded form of Exploration will be introduced, titled The Forbidden Land of Eureka. This name takes a page from Final Fantasy III, and the concept will be different from Diadem and unique to Stormblood. There might (assume yes) be Notorious Monsters that will appear only once every 72 hours. Furthermore, Eureka may be used for the next set of high-end weapons that can be equated to Relic.
- New Gear and Recipes will be included. Expect the winners of Fan's Gear Design Contest to be added.
- Item Inventory Expansion as much as humanly possible.
- A 4th Residential Area will be added. I hope it's Ishgard. Please let it be Ishgard.
- All areas of Stormblood will be accessible by flying mounts.
- The Minimum PC requirements will increase a little bit. If possible, upgrade to 64-bit OS, though the game will still support 32-bit. 64-bit, however, will offer the best gaming experience.
- Best of all - in my opinion - they will be dropping PlayStation 3 support. It is time to move forward! Expect bigger and better things! Well, definitely better, considering the budget for Stormblood is $36 million, which is triple the budget of Heavensward. So maybe the cash shop is a good thing.
Expect Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood to arrive in Early Summer of 2017.
