Kickstarters are a great source of "dream"-funding. We have witnessed big-name developers procure an unimaginable amount of funding lately for games like Yooka-Laylee and Bloodstained, but lesser-known indie teams are also able to accomplish gargantuan goals with the program.

Case in point: Offworld Industries and its big dream, titled Squad.

Sounds like a military-related title, doesn't it? Well, that's because it is. In terms of funding, at the time of this writing, there are 2,789 backers who have pledged $212,873--of a goal of $149,718--for the Unreal 4-powered shooter. As a result, the first stretch goal has been ignited, giving fans the power of voting for the next Squad map beginning June 10th. I can definitely imagine the excitement of these developers.

Aren't you curious about what Squad is, though?

Well, to describe the game, Squad is an online multiplayer first-person shooter that "aims to capture realism through communication and team play." Additionally, the game embodies the legacy of Battlefield 2's well-known "Project Reality" mod, going so far as to recreate the "Fool's Road" map. 10 years worth of experience, testing, and research are currently being poured into a modern, stand-alone engine.

In Squad, large, open maps, which hosts up to 50 players for each side, will come equipped with squad cohesion mechanics, vehicles, and player-based constructed bases. Correspondingly, tactical, split-second planning becomes essential for victory. Additionally, all roles become an important puzzle piece battle: machine gunner, sniper, grenadier, APC-crewman, helicopter pilot, squad-leadership, construction engineer, medic, forward observer, and a rifleman. However, and realistically speaking, every player begins as a rifleman.

Oh, and look forward to the super simulated server side damage system. In other words, if you're shot, you're not going to be sprinting until you are treated by a medic. Same for vehicles---if a tire is popped, then you'll have to wait for field repair.

Editor's Note: I wonder if bleeding out until a medic heals you will happen in Squad.

And last, but certainly not least, administrative spectator modes, refined machinima/filming tools, and mod and mission design support will be included.

Perfect for shooter fans, parties, and anyone wanting a realistic war experience.

Interested yet?

If you are, you can support the project by heading over to their official Kickstarter Campaign

Though the team has reached their original goal, they are seeking up to $1,000,000 ($1,246,114 CAD) in stretch goals in order to reduce development time and provide the greatest experience for fans.

Below you can find the official trailer of Squad, straight off of YouTube:

Congratulations on the funding victory, Offworld Industries! We hope you'll reach all your stretch goals!
