If you think about it, perhaps one of the coolest things about Splatoon was less the fact that it's a new Nintendo IP (those don't come around frequently, but they are certainly rare these days), and more the fact that it was a new Nintendo IP that was so quickly accepted as part of Nintendo's staple of characters that they're now given the same treatment Mario or Zelda might get. People love being kids and then squids, and even if the game lacks that one central character that most Nintendo IP's orbit around, the world of Splatoon is so vibrant and surprisingly lore-rich that it, in a way, fulfills the exact same role.
It wasn't much of a surprise, then, to find that Japanese magazine CoroCoro has already been publishing a manga based on the events of the game, where every Inkling had creepy, open-mouth dead-eyed smiles. But what is a bit more surprising is the recent news that they'll also be hosting a new Splatoon web-based anime series in a month, bringing the world of Inkopolis to life.
Unfortunately, the fact that it exists and it's expected to come out in a month is basically everything we know right now. It'll probably be translated into English, but the timetable for that is up in the air... and we're unsure if it'll be an official translation or one of those fan subtitles people are doing these days. But it'll happen eventually, no doubt.
Either way seems pretty cool. And a little bit creepy.
Seriously, little dudes, stop smiling so much.
