It may or may not be Spider-Cat

Cute animals are a great way to win the hearts of people online. But as it turns out, spiders don't quite cut it. Maybe that's why Spider-Man: Miles Morales will feature a friendly cat friend that hangs out in your backpack.

Revealed as part of an exclusive gameplay preview with Game Informer, we learn that one of the costume options available for the titular character includes a backpack with a cat inside of it. The friendly feline is actually Spider-Cat. And while they don't actually provide any combat advantages, they do appear to lend a hand during finishing moves.

When Miles performs a finishing move on an enemy, Spider-Cat will appear out of the backpack to deal some additional blows to the target. While entirely cosmetic, it's a fun addition to the costume. Current fan speculation implies that this is THE Spider-Cat, an actual comic book character that appeared in the Earth 999 series.

I'd love to see the final boss defeated by Spider-Cat.
