Paris Games Week 2017 is upon us. To kickstart a week of new game announcements is Spelunky 2, a sequel to the critically-acclaimed roguelike platformer Spelunky.

A trailer has been released by developers Mossmouth Games showing the protagonist of Spelunky having succeeded in his expedition, settling down, having a family, and eventually passing down his trademark hat to his son/daughter. It somewhat implies that he died of old age, but it is not explicitly made clear. This can be taken to mean Spelunky 2 will be about their child going on a new adventure.

Spelunky 2 will be "coming first to PS4 and Steam". This leaves the possibility of it coming to Xbox One, and if we are lucky, Nintendo Switch. So far this is all we know about Spelunky 2. More details are sure to come out of the woodwork now that the secret is out. Whether or not it will meet the expectations brought on by such a successful predecessor is uncertain, especially with the center stage attention it's been given at Paris Week.

You can see the reveal trailer for yourself with the video below. Be sure to stay tuned for all the other exciting reveals and releases to come out of Paris Games Week 2017.
