South Park: The Fractured But Whole Goes Gold

Though it's hard to tell from the trailer

Earlier today, the official YouTube account for Ubisoft US posted an announcement trailer regarding the upcoming South Park game, South Park: The Fractured But Whole. The trailer declared that the game had finally gone gold. A game having "gone gold" is a development term used to mean that the game was done being made and was ready to be produced and distributed. With a release date of October 17th, this leaves about three weeks for physical copies to be shipped worldwide. The trailer also notes that a free copy of their previous game, The Stick of Truth, will be provided with purchase. Furthermore, there is a preorder bonus relating to the show's side character Towelly.

The trailer itself is not like what one would expect. It's a one-minute animation of Sea Man bringing the main character to a crying gay fish (referred to as such by Sea Man) who asks you to help him get his mother into heaven. Agreeing to the task, you touch the gay fish's fin and are transported high into the sky where his mother is found riding a unicorn. By guiding her mount through a sped-up section of Flappy Bird, the mother reaches heaven and the gay fish thanks you.

That's it.

While this seems like nonsense, it is a doubled-down reference to Kanye West. In a past episode of the show, Kanye was enjoying fish sticks, an act that made others call him a gay fish. About two years ago, Kanye had released a now-removed trailer for a video game he was designing about getting his mother into heaven. So the fish, the mother, and Flappy Bird were all jabs at this idea.

Crass or clever, you can see for yourself with the video below:
