In a move that totally destroys any Korean adaptation of Revenge of the Nerds, Chung-Ang University in South Korea will be giving competitive gamers the same benefits as student athletes starting next year. Players will be able to enroll as eSports athletes through the Department of Sport Science.

Americans expecting to major in Titanfall next semester can keep on dreaming. The eSports scene in Asia is drastically different from anything we're used to. Teams train around the clock and live in dorms that are paid for entirely by sponsorships. South Korea has an entire channel devoted to Starcraft, and have matches that fill up entire stadiums of cheering fans.

For those of you who haven't seen the documentary Free to Play yet, I'll embed the video below. While it mostly focuses on a specific DOTA 2 tournament, they do travel to places like Singapore and South Korea where eSports is serious business. Robotic cheerleaders and VR season passes to games... could be kind of cool right?
