Sony's Twitter and Facebook Briefly hacked

It got better.

There's been another Sony hack, ladies and gentlemen. But don't worry about leaked info or customer details: this one is far gentler, with hackers having stolen and used Sony's Twitter and Facebook page for a few short hours.

These tweets and posts, which have since been deleted, were more-or-less harmless. Urging people to follow a hashtag, claiming that the PSN has been hacked (although there's no evidence to support that claim), and even urging Sony to get in touch because, and I quote, "They're a security company" and I suppose this is what you would call an aggressive marketing scheme. They also claim to be the same people responsible for the HBO hack, in which case, they're very bad at their jobs.

It's unknown if Sony ever did reach out to them (I doubt they would make it public if they have), but they were able to regain control over the accounts fairly quickly. A task that would be simple once Twitter and Facebook were aware of the issue.

Judging by the simplicity of the hack and their limited access, it's safe to assume the main security flaw was mainly just a weak password, or someone at Sony falling for a phishing scheme, which is how Russia hacked the Democrats back in 2016. But that's all speculation on my part: obviously, Sony won't go public with that kind of thing.

Regardless. This is another embarrassing episode for a company that has a bad history when it comes to cybersecurity. Sounds like they need to invest in some better protection.
