It might be time for PlayStation fans to renew their Netflix subs. The popular video streaming service has struck an exclusivity deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment.
According to a press release by Sony, a deal has been made with Netflix for any Sony films released 2022 onward to be released exclusively on their platform after their theatrical release. This will include movies like the Spider-Man: Into the Spider -Verse sequel, and the upcoming Uncharted film, based on the game series of the same name.
The deal will also include any films they decide to produce direct-to-streaming, or films that will later be licensed for streaming, according to a New York Times article (thanks GI.biz).
Sony/PlayStation has been investing a great deal in producing film and TV content based on their console exclusive games. They claim to be producing seven TV shows and three films, of which includes content based on games like Uncharted and The Last of Us. While they confirm that the Uncharted film will be part of this deal, they didnt mention the fate of The Last of Us. Though we will know some time in 2022, we suppose.
All in all, it comes as absolutely no surprise that Sony would strike an exclusivity deal with their content.
