Ever since the Xbox One and PS4 went head to head, the PS4 has maintained anything from a comfortable to a crushing lead over their main competitor. The Xbox One has been trying, certainly going a long way since its "always online DRM-fest" days, but the PS4 remains the most popular console among the big three by far.
To really emphasize this point, Sony decided to highlight a few numbers at the annual Investors Day, which was just the other day. Presumably, it was an event full of old white people who had no love for games or their impact on the world, but they do care about the bottom line, and gosh, Sony had great news on that front.
Specifically, 40 million PS4s have been sold since launch, and, just as nice, 20.8 million people are currently subscribed to PlayStation Plus, which is a record high for the company. While it's certainly interesting to see that almost half of all PS4 players have PS+, it might be even lower than that--after all, some of those PS+ people might be on the PS3, so, regardless... the moral is, online play is apparently not as important for console players as we might assume
Anyway. You can see the whole report here. Leave it to cooperate America to take investor day and turn it into a dry PDF, but there you go.
Here's hope they at least bring a clown to next year's investor's meeting. Or balloon animals. Or something.
