Announced by Sony (in an exclusive with Deadline), the film will be produced in collaboration between Sony Pictures, PlayStation Productions, and Sucker Punch Productions.
Chad Stahelski (Director for John Wick) will direct the film. Nate Fox, Sucker Punchs game director, believes that of all the people, Stahelski will do the best at portraying the tension of the story.
If anyone could bring to life the razor-sharp tension of Jin's katana combat, it's Chad Stahelski.
There's no actual confirmation whether the film will be live action or not.
Ghost of Tsushima has been a tremendous success since its release last July. Having sold over 6.5 million copies, the game went on to win numerous game awards for aspects like the music and narrative direction.
This is also right in alignment with Sonys film efforts lately. Theyve been investing a great deal of time and money into producing a handful of video game film adaptions. The more notable examples include an Uncharted movie and a TV series based on The Last of Us.
We dont blame them, either. Between Detective Pikachu, Sonic the Hedgehog, and the Witcher TV series, theres a tremendous interest for video game film, mature or otherwise. We just hope they do these games justice.
