The announcement came as part of a live stream by Bungie, along with a number of other Destiny 2 related reveals. It was then tweeted out by the official Bungie twitter account.
Just announced on stream: On September 17, Cross Save will become available on Destiny 2 across ALL platforms!
To solidify this fact, PlayStation retweeted the post with the word "confirmed!"
For the last few years, Sony had developed a reputation for being very exclusive to themselves. There were a number of instances where they would not allow cross-play, cross-saves, or other forms of indirect interaction with the other consoles. Examples of this included Minecraft, Fortnite, and Rocket League.
Sony started to get along when they announced a beta cross-play support for select titles. But even then, they've shown little to no interest in allowing cross-interaction.
It's clear that this is Sony pushing some positive PR by agreeing to this feature. It's hard to want to praise them for it when it should be a common courtesy to developers to allow it.
Either way, we recognize a good thing when we see it.
