Nintendo struck gold when the released a miniaturized Nintendo Entertainment System with a selection of pre-loaded games. Sony has now followed suit, having announced their own mini retro console: the PlayStation Classic.

Announced Tuesday on the PlayStation blog, the PlayStation Classic is a small replication of the original PlayStation console. It's stated to be about 45 percent the size of the original console.

"The console will come pre-loaded with 20 classic titles, including fan-favorites such as Final Fantasy VII, Jumping Flash, Ridge Racer Type 4, Tekken 3, and Wild Arms."

The full list of games available has not been released at this time.

The mini console will cost $99.99 and is available for pre-order at various retailers in the U.S. and Canada. The purchase comes with the console, an HDMI cable, a USB cable, and two controllers. It'll release on December 3.

Community reception has been notably less positive than that of the NES Mini. Even longtime PlayStation fans have expressed concern over the unreleased game list, the small game list, and the larger-than-desired price tag. When you compare it to the NES Mini, which had 30 games announced before launch, costing $40 less.

Pre-order at your own risk.
