Sony has recently announced a new Tetris game, and it's astoundingly beautiful to look at.
Tetris Effect is coming to the PlayStation 4 later this year, under the development of Tetsuya Mizuguchi and Enhance Games, the creator and studio behind REZ. Their influence certainly shows. This game is one of the most graphically artistic iterations on the title.
The name itself is in reference to a psychological phenomenon, in which someone engrossed in an activity begin to fantasize and dream about it when no longer playing. The titular example being people "seeing" Tetris in their dreams.
The theming appears to be a nod towards the classic roots of the game, with modern visual quality. Enhance Games promises 30 different stages, each with its own music, sound effects, graphical style and background that all evolve and change as you play through them. Though according to the official website, there will still be a variety of modes to keep you entertained. One new mechanic is called "Zone." This mode will allow players to stop time in order to reposition their pieces, either to save themselves from critical failure or for the biggest bonus score.
The game will include high resolution modes for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 Pro, and even PlayStation VR.
Tetris Effect will be playable at E3 2018 next week.
