There have even been very talented people who took the time to “fix” Sonic, mostly by making his eyes bigger and making his mouth… less… that. Less whatever the hell that is.
Point is, the response to the trailer has been less-than-positive. Which seems to have come as a surprise to the director, Jeff Fowler, who tweeted this out yesterday:
“Thank you for the support. And the criticism. The message is loud and clear... you aren't happy with the design & you want changes. It's going to happen. Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be.”
…Okay.
I’m not saying this is bad news: hell, I think most people would call it good! But if the movie is set to come out this November, it’s a LITTLE BIT late to start redesigning the titular character. Which leads me to think one of three things:
- This is a joke.
- They already knew this design was terrible, released it as a marketing ploy, and the “better” version is already well underway.
- They’re only going to fix the glaring issues, which in this case is probably the eyes and the teeth.
