In an announcement today by Rebellion, Steam keys for the recently released Sniper Elite V3 have been reported stolen. The batch of keys were suspected as stolen, then resold to multiple retailers, who have since updated their pages to reflect the availability. In response to the theft, Rebellion has revoked the game from some accounts in order to prevent the use of the stolen keys. However, they have also instructed those who have had their key revoked to e-mail them a proof of purchase, as well as their key in order to return their key back to them. On top of that, the "Target Hitler" DLC will be gifted to those who follow the instructions, free of charge.
Ugh, in situations like this, it's hard to keep your head on a swivel. Because you have to think about all the things going on in the developers' minds: How did they get stolen? Who's a good retailer, and who's not? How do we prevent this from happening again? I think Rebellion handled this perfectly, in this case. Yes, re-downloading your game sucks, but they make up for it with free DLC to shoot Hitler! If that's not enticing, I don't know what is. It's hard to come back from something like this with a decent reputation in the end, but they managed to keep it together and took the appropriate action.
Like sniping. Get a jam? Clear the chamber, reload the magazine, re-chamber, shoot on.
