As a journalist, I try to keep myself mentally prepared for potential news beats and announcements. Though every so often, I'm stuck with a bit of news that musters a "...really?" out of me. In this case, it's that Snapchat is working on a gaming platform.
According to a report by The information (login required), Snap Inc. will be launching a gaming platform into Snapchat at some point this fall. They've even already locked down a publisher. This platform will allow users to download and play third-party developed games from within the app via a game store section.
The popular social media app is best known for one's ability to send pictures and short videos to others, which will delete themselves after a set amount of time. Over time it's evolved to support major business outlets, story systems, bitmoji, and a whole lot of other features that I couldn't actually be bothered with. Despite their seemingly endless ambition, I never expected "gaming platform would be one of them. The slowly dying nature of Facebook's game platform only reinforced this apparently false mindset.
I'm only left with one question: when is Skyrim: Snapchat Edition coming out?
