If you're looking to enjoy the new release of Skyrim: Special Edition, which was just released, there's a better-than-good chance you're doing it on your PC. And if you're doing it on your PC, then there's a better-than-good chance you've already got an original copy of Skyrim on your system, full of mods that you've downloaded through the years. That being the case, I have a warning to issue to you PC-playing Dragonborne: don't try to import your save files from the base game to the Special Edition.
You see, the two games are considered just that: separate games. That means that your old mods for the base game no longer work, and that also means that any save files that have mods working in them (which will likely be all of them) won't be compatible with the Special Edition.
Hmm. So, that's annoying on a few fronts: annoying for gamers, sure, because it means that countless hours invested into characters and leveling up will be lost... but perhaps more annoying for mod creators, who now have to find a way to get their old mods to function in the new game, which could be a lot harder than it sounds. Still, for what amounted to a free update of the game on PC, I guess there's only so much we can complain about.
So, be aware of that. I'm sure it won't be too long before there's a mod that will get you the levels and equipment you're missing, if there isn't one already. So you'll probably be fine. Probably.
