So, in short: they need people to actually make the game. And in an AMA on Reddit, Skybound CEO told fans that they're going to compose a team made entirely of ex-Telltale developers.
Specific to The Walking Dead team, we've been in contact with most, if not all of [the developers] in one way or another. I met most of them personally last week.....great bunch of people and it was great fun chatting with them about how we can get the show back on the road…
Prompted by another fan question, he elaborated:
In the development of any game, it's often not a fixed team, people roll on and off of projects all of the time depending on where the game is at in it's development cycle and this is no different. So, that means there are people who were on the team who were close to rolling off onto something else, it's unfair to ask someone to come back and do a couple of weeks work, especially if that would get in the way of another job offer, so this is just one example of some of the challenges we face.
So that’s good news. Like, really good news, for everyone. He was unable to confirm when the next episode would be released, but all things considered, some delays are perfectly understandable. It’s a lot better than what we were going to get beforehand.
Which is nothing.
