In a rather unsurprising turn of events, the final season of Telltale's The Walking Dead will be completed, after all. Skybound Entertainment has stepped in to take the project over.

If the name sounds familiar, it's because Skybound is the company behind the official The Walking Dead comic book series in which the other media forms were based on. Announced on Twitter, the company will now be taking over development for the video game adaption.

Skybound recently established their own internal development team with the purpose of game publishing. According to publishing head Ian Howe, The Walking Dead game will retain the original team, however.

"We don't believe the game can be properly completed by anyone other than members of the original team."

The final season for the episodic game series was otherwise canceled after developers Telltale Games laid off their remaining staff and shut down. This was shortly followed by a lawsuit against the company for not following employment regulations.

All that's left now is to see if Devolver Digital will take over the Stranger Things game, as well.
