I’m something of a Skullgirls fan, and yes, for the exact reason you’re thinking. All the same, despite it’s solid gameplay and it’s relative fame (It’s not exactly Street Fighter, but it’s better known than BlazBlue at least) in the beginning Skullgirls had a lot of problems. It was dogged by controversy due to the all-sexy female cast (Which weren’t actually very sexy at all, once you got to know them) before release, and after it came out a combination of its partnership with Konami (always bad) with the high cost of patching games on consoles meant the game was left to rot, forgotten, until an IndieGoGo campaign brought the game back to life (and to PC, not coincidentally) and brought brand new characters to the roster to make it even more exciting.

Well, now that the Skullgirls train is rolling, it seems like nothing can stop it, as Developer Lab Zero has recently announced a new update to Skullgirls: 2nd Encore!

Not only will 2nd Encore bring Skullgirls to the Playstation 4 and PS Vita, it will also have all 14 characters (including the DLC cast), be compatible both with PS3 fighting sticks, and have cross-play between the PS4 and the PS3. But that’s not all: it will also include new features including fully-voiced story modes for all the characters (with a cast of anime voice acting all-stars), a Survival mode where you regenerate HP between rounds depending on your performance, a Trial mode to help you train in basic character combos outside a standard tutorial mode, and a challenge mode where you have to defeat your enemy following set conditions—such as not jumping or fighting 3 AI’s at the same time.

Skullgirls: 2nd Encore doesn’t have a release date yet, and sadly for the PC master race there’s no promise yet that it will ever be released outside the PS4 (but Lab Zero has said it’s considering turning it into DLC) but it’s still really exciting. Still, we’re left to wonder… what’s up with me and parentheses today? Seriously there were way more than usual in this article… hopefully it won’t become a trend, eh?

Oh, also, Skullgirls. Hype!
