Konami isn’t exactly on the top of anyone’s “best game companies” lists, but unfortunately, despite routinely failing to put out games, it still earns a spot at the “big dogs” table by sheer virtue of the IP it owns. Heavy-hitters like Contra, Castlevania, and Metal Gear Solid are all owned by Konami, and until they sell them to some other company who’ll actually use them, they’re allowed to call themselves a gaming company even if all they make are Pachinko machines and mistakes.
That said, one of their IP’s is Silent Hill, which Konami actually have a long history of ‘loaning out’ to other studios to do the heavy lifting for them. And now the latest studio being tasked with reminding people that Silent Hill exists is Behaviour Interactive, who have just announced that Silent Hill is being added to its growing horror franchise mashup Dead By Daylight.
Here’s the trailer.
Unsurprisingly, the new killer being added is the most iconic monster of the entire Silent Hill franchise, Pyramid Head. Slightly more surprising, the new hero is actually Cheryl Mason, the protagonist from the third Silent Hill game, and not the most iconic hero by a long shot. However, when you consider that the new map being added is Midwich Elementary School, from the first game, clearly Konami was trying to spread the love somewhat.
This is far from the first time another horror game has guest starred in Dead by Daylight: in fact, Dead by Daylight is becoming something like the Super Smash Brothers of the horror world, with series like Left 4 Dead, Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Stranger Things having shown up earlier. This will, however, likely be the first real “Silent Hill” we’ll get in a long time, so, it warrants special appreciation.
