Four individuals were shot in a shooting that took place at the YouTube headquarters in San Bruno, California, Tuesday afternoon. Three of them were sent to the hospital for their injuries, while the fourth is the suspected shooter, who died from a reportedly self-inflicted gunshot wound.
San Bruno chief of police Ed Barberini held a news conference, where he confirms that one person was found on-site, with the other two found off-site. The fourth person was found deceased, due to "a gunshot wound that may have been self-inflicted.
Later that night, San Bruno Police confirmed the identity of the shooter. While the cause of the shooting is still under investigation, they had a history of criticizing YouTube on social media. They had posted videos complaining about age-gating and other demonetization practices held by YouTube, and how its affected the community over time.
The shooter had gone missing for a few days before the event. They later were spotted at a local gun range Tuesday morning, and a Smith & Wesson-brand 9 mm handgun registered under their name was found on-site.
The police do not believe the shooter had targeted any particular individuals, and are currently attempting to access their social media accounts for a greater understanding of their motivations.
Our sympathies go out to the injured individuals, and we hope for a healthy recovery.
