"Its instantly accessible to anyone young or old," says Syfy vp Jeff Li. "I dont care what your cultural background is, you dont even have to follow the story. You dont have to read the book. Its Sharknado and youre both excited and terrified."
And of course, their largest issue was finding a way to get the game out fast...
"Our one quest was to get a game out before or at the time of the second movie," says Li. "We did not give the game developer a lot of time. Usually they want more than a year but here we said weve got to get a quality game out so it can ride the Sharknado 2 wave.".
Li said that normally a game like this might take up to a year to produce and release and even more than 2 years had it been made for the consoles. With all of this in mind, they chose Majesco Entertainment (BloodRayne and Zumba) to develop the game app.
The game itself will be an infinite runner that has you going through the streets of New York battleing all kinds of sharks with anything from a sword to a chainsaw. The game is expected to be released on iOS. There are no details on an Android version at this time.
Li mentioned that if the game is successfull then a console version is sure to come and as for the Sharknado game price, well, they aren't quite sure yet as the thought is that it will more than likely be free to play rather than a one-time-charge. Li also hopes that the game and movie will help continue the "Cult Phenomenon" which is Sharknado...
"We want to establish Sharknado as a transmedia property," says Li, "so you will want to enjoy the experience on or off the television screen and interact with it. Videogaming is a perfect medium to extend the franchise."
So one wonders just how successful a Sharknado game will be?
Oh, and I'll leave you with this... ;)
