Shadow Warrior 2 Sales Blow Away the Original Reboot

A much deserved victory.

Back in 2013, Flying Wild Hog rebooted the Shadow Warrior franchise. It was met with mixed reactions, but was generally a solid title. Now, with the sequel, they've blown that performance away. Devolver Digital, the game's publisher, has announced that first week sales of Shadow Warrior 2 have quadrupled the 2013 reboot. Most likely, this increase is due to the game's polish as well as the stellar PR promotion leading up to the sequel's release.

Check out what Flying Wild Hog Studio Director, Michal Szustak, had to say about the success:

We could not be happier with the reception of Shadow Warrior 2. We're a small studio with only about 75 people, and each of us poured our hearts and souls into making a bigger, different experience for Shadow Warrior 2. That our fans and critics have largely applauded our efforts means the absolute world to us.

I had the honor of meeting Tadeusz Zielinski from Flying Wild Hog at QuakeCon. The passion of the Flying Wild Hog team was apparent in their booth (the best at QuakeCon, hands down), how they talked about the game, and their excitement of seeing gamers enjoy playing the demo. You can check out my entire experience here. Most importantly, though, was that I waited for about an hour after the interview for a chance to play at one of the many terminals they had set up. I wanted to play the game and see first hand what the game was like. However, during that whole time, not a single terminal opened up. And while I was a bit salty about that, I fully understood why: the game is fun and addictive. I couldn't fault the game for being good. And from that, I'm not surprised at all that Shadow Warrior 2 has found such success already.
