Did you think we were done making mini versions of retro consoles? You'd be wrong! Sega is back at it again, celebrating 60 years of business with the Astro City Mini, a tiny rendition of the arcade cabinet, with 36 arcade games within.
For those who didn't know, The Astro City was one of Sega's most popular arcade machines back in the day. It was home to some tremendously popular arcade games, like Virtua Fighter.
Sega has officially revealed the Astro City Mini. This is a small, handheld model of the cabinet, featuring a joystick and six surface buttons. Users can play one of 36 games from its mini screen as audio plays out of two side speakers, set up the same way as the original arcade machine.
For larger or group play, The Astro City Mini can be connected to a TV via an HDMI port in the back. It also supports additional controllers via USB ports in the back as well.
We don't know what games to expect from the 32 game lineup. Sega didn't release that information. We can assume Virtua Fighter, since that is what was on screen in the press image. Outside of that, it's pure speculation.
The mini system is expected to cost around $120 and is set to release near the end of 2020. This is assuming it releases in the west at all. None of this has been confirmed for American markets.
