Sega, the folks behind Sonic the Hedgehog, Yakuza, and a series of other games you probably can’t think of off the top of your head, have announced that they’re going to partner up with a new London-based studio called Interior Night to launch a new game.
That might not seem super noteworthy on its own, but Interior Night has a prestigious, if questionable pedigree - while they haven’t published anything themselves yet, they were founded by a former Quantic Dream employee, lead designer Caroline Marchal, who worked on such titles as Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls. Other notable employees include former staff members from Quantic Dream, Sony, and Slightly Mad Studios, who did a bunch of racing games for EA and Namco Bandai, most recently Project CARS 2.
Obviously we have no information about the game proper, but Sega must have been impressed with what they saw to enter a publishing deal with the company. That said, if it came from the former lead designer at Quantic Dream, then you can probably imagine what kind of game it’ll turn out to be. Of course it’s always possible that she’ll decide to do something radically different, it’s impossible to know at this point.
Quantic Dream itself has been in a bit of trouble as of late thanks to the accusations of former employees who claimed it was a toxic, exhausting, stressful place to work and that sexual and racial harassment ran rampant. The charges have been denied by founder David Cage (in a very terrible way) but all the same, it seems likely the specter of that controversy might chase after Interior Night… at the very least, from people looking to confirm from former employees if any of the rumors and accusations hold their salt.
But all the same. Hopefully whatever game comes out of this turns out magically.
