Sea of Thieves, the multiplayer pirate adventure game by Rare is wiggling its way back into headlines with a new update. But instead of new content, it's due to a massive reduction in file size.

Extra large file sizes are becoming an unfortunate yet common trend lately with triple-A games. Sea of Thieves fell for the same problem with 50 GBs. But in a recent update, the developers have managed to cut that nearly in half. Now the entire game is downloaded in only 27 GB.

This is one aspect of a larger change to the game's file structure overall. This new method of file management will also mean smaller update patches and better load screens.

The downside? You'll have to redownload the entire game to update, regardless of if the previous version was installed.

The new file system, complete with significantly smaller file size, will go into effect on February 6. For additional details about the process, you can check out the developer video embedded below.
