Sea of Thieves, the ocean-faring open-world multiplayer game by Rare, is about to become a little more accessible on PC. The game is coming to Steam!

Before now, the game was only available on Xbox One and on PC through the Microsoft Store. It was a vaguely less convenient way to access the game, but peopled bared with it anyway. That is, until recently, when an official Steam page for the game appeared, being quickly discovered by the more observant internet users.

With it comes an announcement post, explaining their excitement to expand their audience:

"Sea of Thieves has always been about incredible pirate adventures where you never know who or what is just over the horizon," said Rare's Studio Head Craig Duncan. The team at Rare continues to evolve Sea of Thieves, adding more variety and content so that every new voyage feels rich and fulfilling as you make friends and foes on the seas. We're genuinely thrilled to bring Sea of Thieves to Steam, and look forward to welcoming the Steam community to our game so we can share a grog and a shanty together and hear the tales of their adventures!

Sea of Thieves has seen numerous major updates since its release two years ago. With new modes, challenges, content, enemies, and quests to follow, there's been more to do than ever before. When we initially reviewed the game, our biggest complaint was a lack of long-term content variety, an issue they appeared to resolve.

It's important to note that an official Steam release date and price tag has not been announced. Details regarding this will be releasing "soon." The game is $19.99 on the Microsoft Store, so we can expect the same or similar from Steam.

In short: If you were interested in the game but decided not to, now might be the best time ever to check it out. I'll be dusting off my copy, for sure. It's too bad that Microsoft Store owners don't get to switch to Steam. Bethesda did something similar to Fallout 76, after all.
