Sea of Thieves may not have the player base it used to, but that hasn't stopped Rare from continuing development on the game. The second major expansion, Cursed Sails, launches today as a free update for all players.
The popular pirate game was highly anticipated before its launch. Heavy marketing and enjoyable pre-launch betas generated extreme interest. Though not long after it hit the shelves, players were upset with the lack of content available. It was commonly considered a half-made game with too many promises.
A little while later, they released their first expansion. Titled The Hungering Deep, this update added a new story, new items, and a massive shark monster known as the Megalodon.
Similarly, Cursed Sails will offer another new campaign, new tools, mechanics, and a threat to the world. Skeleton ships with cursed weapons have begun to invade the waters. This update also adds in a new ship, the Brigantine. This new craft acts as a three-person alternative to the larger and smaller ships. Different crews can now work together by joining an Alliance. This formalizes peace treaties and shares look found.
And of course, there's a new batch of cosmetics and customization for the player, their gear, and their ships.
Perhaps it's time to take to the high seas once more.
