It was an amazing ride, but we fear it has come to an end. The main developer of SCP Unity has announced that the game is canceled and all development is put to an official stop.

SCP Unity, for those unfamiliar, is a recreation of the popular indie game SCP: Containment Breach. That game, in turn, is inspired by the SCP Wiki, an online collection of sci-fi, horror, and thriller stories, written in the form of containment procedures. All of these media forms focus on an organization called the SCP (Secure, Contain, Protect), whose main goal is to capture and neutralize anomalous objects and entities out in the world. This ranges from statues that only move when you aren't looking, to 500 mile long serpents that inflict those near it with madness.

SCP Unity, is a recreation/spiritual successor to SCP: Containment Breach, built in the Unity game engine. In both games, the player controls a D-Class Personnel (essentially a test subject) who is trying to escape the facility after a major containment breach released numerous dangerous entities.

Founder and lead developer of the project, known online as Zornor90, recently made a statement on their Discord channel. The statement announced the discontinuation of SCP: Unity.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I never wanted to make this announcement, but unfortunately, SCP Unity development has been cancelled. About 6-8 months ago I started noticing my health took a massive nosedive. This continued until a month ago where it got so bad I was having some serious tests run at the hospital. They (fortunately) didn't find anything seriously wrong at the moment, but all of these serious symptoms were caused by massive stress and overwork which would lead to very serious things down the line. Because of this as well as some other personal life changes, I made the decision to shut this down. I know that this is probably really disappointing for you guys, and it's not the decision that I wanted to have to make, but I firmly believe that sacrificing your health is never the right move.

This was later confirmed on the games official website, which had a shorter blurb explaining the same thing.

Not long afterwards, a follow-up announcement was made on the games Reddit page, confirming that the other folks involved with development will be branching out and making a new development team for future SCP-related games.

The other developers, committed to continue working, have formed a new group known as Project Aethon, a group which will develop shorter games built around stronger experiences focused on a single SCP.

This is unfortunate news to hear, SCP Unity had quickly become one of the most popular fan-made creations to stem off of the SCP community. Its a fascinating game that does a wonderful job connecting all of the strange and confusing things within the SCP universe. We wish Zornor the best of luck with their future well-being and a smooth development experience for Project Aethon.

SCP Unity can still be downloaded and played for free on the official website. Well definitely be giving it another run through, for old times sake.
