Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game Complete Edition releases on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Stadia, and PC on January 14, 2021.
The Scott Pilgrim comic books were an incredibly popular and influential media when they released, even more so when it was adapted into a live-action movie by director Edger Wright. It was even made into a popular beat-'em-up game for the Xbox 360 Arcade until it was mysteriously removed one day.
But the game is back! Comic book author Bryan Lee O'Malley told Twitter that Ubisoft (the game's publisher) contacted him back in August. Not much later, they announced a revival of the arcade-style game for modern consoles.
Originally marked for Holiday 2020, the game appears to have been delayed slightly, now releasing in mid-January of the following year. This comes as no surprise as the pandemic continues to stagnate various businesses. O'Malley confirmed the date, along with a mention that physical copies of the game are not guaranteed to happen, but if it does, it wouldn't be until after the digital version releases.
game comes out january 14 now. Working on getting a physical release but if it happens it'll be after digital
He follows this up with a reminder that Ubisoft is a major corporation and that they should be treated respectfully, delay or otherwise.
Ubisoft is not a person, it's an abstract corporate entity that we project feelings onto. Real people are the ones doing the coding and behind the scenes work to make the rerelease happen. They deserve your thanks and love. Thank you guys
As big of a fan of Scott Pilgrim as I am, I have to admit that all of the chaos of the world lately has caused me to totally forget about when the game would be released. So to me, this is a surprise with how soon it'll be. But with Brie Larson confirmed to be attending the 2020 Game Awards, there's speculation that she will be promoting the games release, getting it back into the mainstream focus. We'll see.
