Scott Cawthon Details the Future of FNAF

Lots of jumpscares, first of all.

If one criticism could be levied fairly against Scott Cawthon, it’s that he doesn’t seem to understand what “The final chapter” actually means. Because we’ve had like three “last” Five Nights at Freddy’s games so far, each one apparently wrapping up the story conclusively, until the next one comes around and pulls the ol’ switcharoo on us. It’s a bit exhausting, but the dude’s still making money and he still has his fans, so good on him. And according to a new Steam post, Scott has announced that the future of the Five Nights franchise is as strong as ever.

I’ve been promising an update, so here it is! There are a lot of great things being worked on, and most of them will arrive in 2019, including new ports, new games, and new books. The movie progress is still slow, but that's OK because I want to get it right. Everything else however is moving full speed ahead.

To summarize a pretty long post: the movie is still “happening”, but its release date has been pushed back because Scott wasn’t happy with the script. He also admitted that the movie would take place within the “universe” of FNAF 1-3, as that was the most coherent period to focus the story on. Makes enough sense.

FNAF VR is 40 percent complete, and apparently looking “terrific”, but frankly I don’t see why anyone would want to play that heart attack waiting to happen, given how over-reliant ol’ Scott is on jump scares. The AR game is “well under way”, but is still only 10 percent complete. And finally, the free FNAF game, Into Madness, is exactly 0 percent done. So that’s cool.

And perhaps most interesting: apparently a much bigger studio (thus far unnamed) and Scott have teamed up to make a triple-A Five Nights game. So look forward to Funtime Freddy’s Fabulous Loot Boxes.

So, the long and the short of it is, we’re gonna have a lot more FNAF in the future. If that’s good or bad news: that’s up to you, my friend.
