Think about gladiator arena battles and add soccer. That's what you get.

Soccer - otherwise known as football - is a beloved sport around the planet.

Personally, soccer is my favorite sport to play. The adrenaline rush, the sailing of a ball through the air, and the ability to kick people in the shin all are what makes soccer unique.

We know how popular soccer video games can get, at least in most countries. FIFA sells a ton of copies around the world, and many of us also enjoy smaller, niche games like Inazuma Eleven. Well, another soccer game has appeared in the roster, as Wizcorp has announced on February 24th that Striker Arena is available on iTunes.

A successful Kickstarter, this game is a two player tactical-action soccer game set in a fantasy world. The plot is as follows:

Ancient tribes fought many wars. They eventually decide to settle the wars on a discipline, called Soccer of the Gods. Every ten years, tribes go into the Soccer Arena and battle Roman Style.

Why is this game all about strikers?

This game should be called Midfielder Arena!

Let me layout the gameplay:

Players control a Strikers team. They need to get the ball, pass it, and shoot it into the arena vortex (may as well just call it a goal). Just like typical soccer, you need to steal the ball, pass and take the shot. But, unlike typical soccer, you can gain abilities to blast or punch people in the face. Oh, and there are no fouls called. Talk about hardcore. Of course, if you lose, the Emperor won't be so kind. You'll just have to settle for death. The game is available for iOS at $2.99, with an Android version planned for Spring release.
