Diablo 3 will no longer have gold or real-money auction houses as of March 18, 2014. Blizzard said that the auction houses were undermining the core game play of Diablo 3, which is to "kill monsters to get cool loot." This shouldn't be that big of a surprise to us though, the console versions don't even have auction houses. Blizzard has not mentioned how they plan to phase out the auction houses, so we are still waiting to hear more details.
The auction houses are a large part of the game, but maybe it is better to kill monsters and collect loot? After all, purchasing some items is like taking a shortcut, and this does undermine the core game play slightly. However, it is still kind of disappointing that they are removing this feature.
