I’ve had conflicting thoughts on the new Saints Row 4 Standalone Expansion, Gat out of Hell. On one hand, I really, really like the Saints Row games, and this one looks like a lot of fun—it’s got whacky new weapons, and expanding storyline, and musical numbers, which, frankly, should make any game a must-buy. I cannot think of a single game that couldn’t be improved with musical numbers, if Dark Souls ended with a dance-off between the Chosen Undead and Gwyn to the tune of “World on Fire”, I’m pretty sure God would have brought the apocalypse early because Humanity would have officially peaked.

On the other hand, I really hate Gat. Granted, I used to feel ambivalent about him, just another Lieutenant in the Saints who specialized in beating crap up, but then when the writers of the series developed the world’s biggest man-crush on him for some reason, he became the de-facto main character of the series despite the fact he’s not supposed to be. It became very annoying very fast, and when I heard the next big DLC for the game would focus on Gat I was equal parts unsurprised and disappointed.

So like the forces of good and evil since the dawn of antiquity, the decision on whether to buy or not buy this new DLC has been raging inside me. And I think this new announcement trailer has finally pushed that stalemate battle in favor of buying it. Check it:

Fighting Demonic Shakespeare with wrestling moves is just about the clincher I needed—I’m down for this. The expansion (and the PS4/Xbox One remake) will come out January 20th, so clear your calendar. Unless you’re like me and have your first day of classes on the 20th. Then don’t.
