Rust Now Randomizes your Gender as Well

Rust, the survival adventure game over yonder on Steam, has made a habit of rustling jimmies as of late. See, it's developer, the refreshingly bluntly named FacePunch Studio, decided to do something very unorthodox with the character creation: namely, not have any. Rather, when you start the game, a randomly-assigned race and penis size was allotted to your Steam ID: and from then on out, short of getting a new steam ID, that was the race/dick size combo you were stuck with.

This lead some players to dispassionately shrug. Others, of course, started to rally against it, saying how unfair it is to be assigned their race, and how, despite the fact that it's all random, some players have been subjected to racial epithets because of the skin color of their avatar. Hopefully they used it as a learning experience.

Well, now things have gotten even more complex: because in addition to randomly assigning you a race, Rust's latest update now randomly chooses your gender for you as well. So it's possible, now, for a white male player to get stuck with a black woman for a virtual avatar.

Presumably, gender will affect the size of your penis.

Thankfully, the creators predicted the inevitable backlash they'd receive and issued this classy-as-all-hell response on their dev blog:

We understand this is a sore subject for a lot of people. We understand that you may now be a gender that you don’t identify with in real-life. We understand this causes you distress and makes you not want to play the game anymore. Technically nothing has changed, since half the population was already living with those feelings. The only difference is that whether you feel like this is now decided by your SteamID instead of your real life gender.

So, there you have it. If the idea of being randomly assigned a gender you feel doesn't match your true self, congratulations: you're now living as a virtual transvestite. Enjoy!
